"You can't think yourself out of a writing block - you have to write yourself out of a thinking block"...... John Rogers
The same I feel can be said for what sometimes happen to me. I call it my "photographers block" and like writers block, it is when I simply cannot think of a photograph to take, a new idea or nothing seems to imspire me. I get really frustrated and annoyed with myself and the more I try to force it the worse it seems to get.
What I have found over the years, however, is that you have to keep taking photographs no matter what. What works for me is that I ask somebody to give me a theme - it can literally be anything - and I set myself a short mini project of a couple of days and I try and take a new, different, experimental, abstract etc. style approach to it everyday. I find it helps to refocus my mind and gets me actively taking photographs again. They don't always work, but sometimes I might discover a new technique or approach to something that then triggers a new idea or concept.
My most recent phase of "photographers block" happened a few weeks ago and I was given the theme "kitchen equipment" for my mini project. Below are the results, not my best work, however, I was very pleased overall with what I managed to produce and felt ready to tackle some new project ideas once more.
It might not work for everybody, but you never know... try it yourself if you ever find yourself having "photographers block"
