"When I have a camera in my hand, I know no fear"
.... Alfred Eisenstaedt....
it all began with a second hand Pentax camera which I got from my uncle. I was thirteen. I already loved drawing and painting but as soon as I started taking photographs my love affair with photography begun.
The first photographs I can remember taking, printing and thinking "maybe" were of an old rusty bike and I can still see the old chain and handle bars in my mind. Some would say nothing has changed as I am still drawn to old rusty discarded objects.
Of course back then, it was a longer and very expensive process for a teenager to produce a photograph. It involved a roll of 12 or maybe, if I was lucky, a 24 exposure film. Then the wait for the roll to finish, it took time as they were precious exposures not to be wasted. Then sending the roll to the camera shop to be developed and only being able to collect them a week later ! By which time I had very often forgotten what I had taken and so the excitement and anticipation were always at a high. Opening the package and flipping through the photographs, hoping that at least one would be in focus ...
It would be another ten years before I realised that photography was something I had to do and that my journey would really begin...
